STAC IQT Progress

Post by Zeus » Wed Feb 10, 2021 1:42 am

Cadet/IP: STAC/ Zeus
Check Ride #: IQT-1
Check Ride Date: 8 Feb 2021
Score: Pass

Debrief: Please join me in welcoming our newest cadet - STAC. Here's got some good history with Falcon / BMS but life pulled him away for a bit...now he's back. And clearly he has got a good handle on things again already. We went up for IQT-1 last night and he knocked it out of the park on all accounts. Looking forward to having him join us on Wing flights in short order!

As we headed to the tanker we found it stuck in a turn..."great, that's a weakness" said STAC. Yeah, right. :)

After making short work of that we did some more formation flying as we rushed off to Kunsan for a nice OHB and recovery.

Cadet/IP: STAC/ Zeus
Check Ride #: IQT-2
Check Ride Date: 15 Feb 2021
Score: Pass

Debrief: STAC knocked out another IQT flight last night with Blitz riding along to provide both color commentary and act as adversary later in the flight; a decision we would later regret. :) Just like his first flight, STAC demonstrated that he already has a great grasp of our SOPs and really knows how to maintain formation and execute tac turns - he even managed to refuel in the turn again. It was, as the line goes, some of the best flying I'd seen...right up tot he part where he got killed. During our missile evasion practice, STAC was the victim of taking our ROEs literally (not that he meant to). During the attack he never broke the 20nm MAR but the problem was he was still in his crank and his adversary (deadly pilot Blitz) had already launched and was in full egress mode which meant STAC was simply getting dragged into the missile's envelope. By the time he realized this it was too late and his evasion failed. But a really good lesson was learned and one we should all heed; if your distance to the bandit suddenly stops shrinking its not because you executed a great crank...its more likely due to your adversary launching and leaving so you better get going as well! Anyway, despite that unplanned finish, STAC demonstrated everything else needed to complete IQT-2. On to dog fighting!

Nice lesson learned on how MAR is dynamic.
We'll have a fresh jet ready for you for IQT-3 though, so keep up the good work.

Cadet/IP: STAC/ Zeus
Check Ride #: IQT-3
Check Ride Date: 20 Feb 2021
Score: Pass

Debrief: After learning some interesting things about 9X performance on our first attempt, STAC and I went up for a second go at IQT-3. As expected, the flight went flawless with STAC demonstrating incredible SA and superior handling of the jet. He's also got a really good handle on comms and SOPs so at this point expect to see him take an A-A seat in any of our Wing pick-up flights. After swiftly defeating the bandits in our first two engagements we grabbed some fuel and headed off the the second HAVCAP station; I can't remember the last time I had a full loadout going into this portion of the flight so I was hoping I would get a shot at one MiG somewhere along the route. That happened quick enough as STAC went for the merge on the -23 coming in and had to go defensive as the Mig fired off a hopeless head on shot allowing me to swoop in for my one and only shot for the flight. STAC took on the final -29 and the skies were clear before we knew it. We wrapped it up with a nice TRP into Yechon with STAC ready to take on pretty much any A-A role at this point. Now its on to the ground pounding!

Nice no interval departure!

Check Ride #: IQT-4
Check Ride Date: 24 Feb 2021
Score: Pass

Debrief: This guy remains unflappable - another great flight this time working over some ground units. We started off with a low-level OCA strike followed by a string of cluster bombs; all right on target. After a quick splash of fuel we headed to the range. STAC not only had great pattern work (not a single dry run) hit put 6 of 6 BDU-33s dead center on the bullseyes! We wrapped it up with a quick TRP and are ready to move on to some SAM work.

Ready to go at Yechon
