Blitz IQT Progress

Post by Derk » Mon Jul 15, 2019 3:21 am

Cadet/IP: Blitz / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-1
Check Ride Date: 14 July 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Please help me welcome “Blitz” to IQT. Tonight we finished up the objectives for IQT-1 with our second flight which worked good to give him more experience at the basics in the multi-player area. Blitz has a good understanding of tac turns and formations and showed improvements on the couple of hours we practiced them. Our first flight took us out of Fukuoko in Japan for a transit to hop over to Kunsan in our new IQT format. Tonight we left from Kunsan and did a batch of formations and tac turns, then flew north for a practice engagement on some drone transports to prep for IQT-2. Many good lessons learned on this flight and he is ready to move forward.

Nice job Blitz! Look forward working with you in IQT.

Thanks for the votes of confidence! As long as Derk will be on my wing training me the right way there's no doubt I'll be there in no time, I just have to focus and study and practice

Cadet/IP: Blitz / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-2
Check Ride Date: 23 July 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Tonight Blitz completed the objectives for IQT-2. We finished this with a second flight since our first ran us low on fuel after a feisty MiG-23 slipped by and decided to merge with us both. I was able to draw him away as Blitzed turned back in and finished him with a slammer. Fortunately, we finished the MiG-29 engagement with direct hits on one run-in, but it left us too low on fuel having to chase the tanker the full 50-mile track. So we decided to park it at Seosan for the night and finish another day. Tonight’s flight was good practice beyond IQT-2 objectives with working in some BVR tactics as well as finishing IQT-2 with an AAR and missile evasion practice. Thumper was able to join along on short notice and gave us a well-rounded flight to work a grinder and to help with the missile evasion tactic.

Good work Blitz!

Thanks everyone! Having Thumper along was an excellent chance to get used to more callouts and rejoins, especially with the grinder tactic we were using. Look forward to another IQT flight!

Cadet/IP: Blitz / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-3
Check Ride Date: 30 July 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Last night Blitz completed the objectives for IQT-3. We did the initial training in the dogfight area where Blitz combined his skill with learning the 2v1 coordination and communications. The IQT flight last night had good team work for all three of us as Archer joined along. Blitz burned through all of his missiles along with his gun to splash 3 of the 4 hostiles. The one MiG-23 dodged both of our AIM-9X's and leaked by and jumped on my tail. As I ran in burner south, Archer lit him up on the radar to spot for Blitz who pressed in hard and cleaned him off my six. The air refuel operations in between the engagements went well for all of us, and Blitz's first run at doing a TRP approach looked good for a safe landing at Yechon.

Nice job on the air-to-air part of IQT! Looking forward to the air to surface IQT next.

Cadet/IP: Blitz / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-4
Check Ride Date: 4 August 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Last night Blitz completed the objectives for IQT-4 in a flight with Zeus and his cadet Buttons. The flight went very well as we made low- and high-level strikes along with work at the KOTAR range. Blitz took the #4 seat with Zeus in the lead. Our first run with BLU-107's went well with bombs on target. Shortly after, we spotted the moving tank columns which we engaged with Mk-20's. Blitz's ripple patter was tight and right into a nice cluster of moving tanks for multiple hits. After a fill up on the tanker we entered KOTAR and kept a nice tight pattern to do the 20 and 30 degree dive bomb profiles. We wrapped things up with another TRP approach into Yechon, and once situated in the correct position Blitz hit all the correct marks for a smooth approach. Blitz also joined our Friday night BVR Tactics flight and the Sunday Wing mission in the Bear Trap campaign, so he's becoming a regular supporter of our Wing flights.

Keep up the good work Blitz!

Having Zeus and Buttons really made for an exciting IQT! Being out of the "two" seat gave me yet another perspective of how the wing operates and though the learning curve can be tight if someone is not used to BMS, it's nothing a little practice can't take care of. It's fun flying with such a great IP! (and you too Derk...) LOL

See you guys Sunday for another Bear Trap wing night flight!
