Jester IQT Progress

Post by Derk » Wed May 08, 2019 12:20 am

Cadet/IP: Jester / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-1
Check Ride Date: 6 April 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Please help me welcome "Jester" to IQT. I'll leave the door cracked open for each of you to discover on your own how deep Jesters roots run in BMS and his history as a vPilot, but after some inactive time away from a VFW he is still a darn good BMS vpilot from my initial observation. With the rust being dusted off quickly, we ran through the IQT-1 objectives to demonstrate all of the formations and tac turns before we hit the tanker - well over Joker. With a short top-off of fuel, we headed towards Kunsan for some nice looking Finger Tip formation work.

Thanks, Jester, for the offer to lead us into the final at Kunsan so I could get a refresher too. Glued to my wing in Echelon Right we did the overhead break at Kunsan and it seemed like we were done before it barely started. With only a few days in our SOP's there are only little gaps left that need filled in and he'll be all set.

A very smooth start in our IQT program Jester!

Thanks for the warm welcome guys! And thanks for the flattering writeup Derk. Thoroughly enjoyed the session from start to finish. Looks like the 440th is just the WD-40 I need.

Really looking forward to more flying and caddying some missiles around for you :-)

Cadet/IP: Jester / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-2
Check Ride Date: 23 April 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Last night Jester completed the objectives for IQT-2 after a small delay for real life vacation times and work schedules. The wait didn’t hamper a well-coordinated flight as Jester has strong experience in the BVR environment with BMS. The TWS shot was a loooong 29 nm reach for the 120 shooting up hill, so one fell short just short, but it was enough to scare him home. The MiG-23 and MiG-29's were splashed pretty quick with good engagement profiles. Only one MiG-29 seemed to be ‘super-man’ and took three hits from us until finally going up in a ball of flame. Jester did a nice job leading that final engagement which put us into a mini grinder as we worked on that last one for three separate runs IN.

Nice job and looking forward to a learning experience with you in IQT-3!

Cadet/IP: Jester / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-3
Check Ride Date: 4 June 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Last night Jester completed the objectives for IQT-3. He mentioned feeling rusty, but there’s still some solid metal underneath as he engaged the MiG’s and spend no time getting into the Control Zone on their six. Coordination was good with comms and maneuvers between the both of us for being so long since he’s done 2v1 ACM, and I never had to look far to see him chasing the hostiles. His spiral scissors maneuver to bleed speed to stay on the diving MiG’s was a new one I’ll stick in my bag of tricks…if I can repeat it. After a quick splash of the MiG’s it was a quick splash of fuel on the tanker, and then into a nice TRP into Choongwon.

Look’in good Jester, and looking forward to Air to Ground ops with you next in IQT.

Thanks again for the flight Derk, and taking the time on a thorough session, really enjoyed it. Also thanks for the writeups. Always look forward to the after action report. :-)

There was some rust indeed but sessions like these provide the WD-40 needed :-)
I owe the vCrew Chief a case of beer for the failed JFS start ( had to order a recharge of the bottles after a failed start 2). Still happy that I was able to sort that and get the jet up and running in time for the up-front check.

Only managed to get one glory shot - still need those 176 skins for the block 50's!

Looking forward to moving some dirt going forward :-)

Cadet/IP: Jester / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-4
Check Ride Date: 20 June 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Last night Jester completed the objectives for IQT-4. The flight went pretty routine overall with a smooth run in for the low level BLU-107 runway strike. Jester then spotted up the moving tank columns quickly and made a nice setup turn and dive in for hits with the Mk-20D cluster bombs. ACMI showed good hits, but 3D didn’t, which was the same thing we saw at KOTAR range.(?) There were a few dry runs initially getting setup, but the patterns and comms went real well for the dive bomb and strafing runs. He nailed the TRP right on for a safe landing at Choongwon.

Nice work Jester! Moving on nice in IQT.
