Tech IQT Progress

Post by Derk » Sun May 05, 2019 5:13 pm

Cadet/IP: Tech / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-1
Check Ride Date: 4 May 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Please help me welcome “Tech” to IQT. Tech’s been hard at work for the past couple weeks getting up to speed with the BMS sim, training materials, and the SOP’s, and it showed in last nights flight. We had a good flight on Star Wars Day with some long runs in many formation positions along with a flurry of tac-turns. Tech has adapted quickly to our new 4.34 comms procedures and has a good understanding on SOP items. The solo and MP practice flight with Stalker has helped in his correct position and stability, and we’ll keep working to refine that along with air refuel operations over the next few flights.

Keep up the good work Tech!

Cadet/IP: Tech / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-2
Check Ride Date: 25 May 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Last night Tech finished up the objectives for IQT-2. Tech has put in a lot of effort towards book study and flight practice to get up to speed for BVR engagements and his efforts were well worth it. During our various engagements we’ve experienced some interesting things like MiG-23’s that jumped from 430 kts to 640 kts when a missile was shot at it, Bombers that jammed our radar at 5 miles in trail, making us shoot in DF Mode, and MiG-29’s that were able to evade some solid shots. Tech was also able to make a few good moves and avoid a close-range IR missile as well as learning to air refuel in the meantime. We still plan to continue working on BVR tactics since 4.34 has up’d the game, but know that Tech is up to the challenge.

Nice effort learning BVR Tech! Looking forward to working on dogfighting next.

Cadet/IP: Tech / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-3
Check Ride Date: 1 June 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Last night Tech completed the objectives for IQT-3. Tech has been practicing and studying hard to learn our 2v1 tactics. We had a preliminary run in the DF arena with good results that improved on each run. Last night’s flight started and ended with some challenges, but overall, he was able to show his ability to get engaged, move into a shot position, and support the lead during the merge dogfighting. We finished the flight off with an intro run on the TRP approach into Choongwon. Tech’s overall piloting and comms are coming along well over our past flights and know he will continue to work hard at improving as he is excited to join in our Wing flights.

Keep up the good work Tech!

Cadet/IP: Tech / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-4
Check Ride Date: 8 June 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Last night Tech completed the objectives for IQT-4. The BLU-107 low level strike on the runway went smooth with good hits. Tech spotted the moving tanks and took a few turns to get setup for a run-in to release the ripple 3 of CBU’s. Tech will continue to work on the setup flow before delivery, but clearly showed he knows how to get the bombs on target. Then off to the tanker for some fuel before heading to KOTAR. The pattern and comms looked really nice even though this was his first time there in multi-player. So, his hard work at solo practice and prep paid off. Unfortunately, we both were unable to see his BDU-33’s hit which we contributed to an odd graphics issue because the ACMI showed them coming off and hitting his intended target. After a couple strafing runs we headed to Choongwon for nice TRP pattern in for a safe landing.

Nice strong start with Air to Ground operations!

Cadet/IP: Tech / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-5
Check Ride Date: 18 June 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: This week Tech completed the objectives for IQT-5. It took a couple flights since the SAM changes in 4.34 altered the standard IQT plan. Our HARM shots on the hot SA-2 and SA-3's only caused them to shut down after our launch, only to come back up and spike us shortly after. Oddly, ACMI showed hits on the units, but RWR spikes from them hampered further engagements. With no other options we returned to base for the night approach into Kangnung which Tech completed on the second run, and making a nice smooth landing.

The next night we ran a Maverick training flight to complete IQT-5. Tech studied hard on the Mavericks and can boresight them quickly. The actual Mav engagements were a bit of a challenge until all of the cockpit sequences and book study 'clicked'. After the flight Tech continued to improve on his proficiency with solo practice flights until confident he’s got it down. There are more 'Tech' challenges to be learned for IQT-6, but he's eager to take them on.

Nice efforts Tech – and now just one more IQT to go!

I have come to like the AGM65s now. I have it down in POS mode with a high hit rate. Bore-sighting in seconds for all pylons and getting hand-offs quickly once in range but the steady cross at times even when dead center or 100% in the keyhole is sometimes taking longer than I feel should be the case but be patience is key there. And yes don't for get to power them off when coming off in prep for the new run.

IQT-6 prep started! Excited to join many flights in the near future!
