Operation Shockwave - Wing Anniversary Flight

Post by Derk » Sun Mar 31, 2019 3:36 am

Today the 440th VFW celebrated our 1 year anniversary (officially April 1st) with a full scale wing mission with 16 human pilots. Thanks to the 1117th Buk Hunters for providing the challenging mission, detailed briefing, and bringing their expertise as SEAD specialist to assist in our wing mission.

Our mission objective was to strike strategic targets with precision weapons which required a multi-layer operation of Escorts, SEAD, and AB Strike flights to clear the path to the target area. With multiple groups of MiG-29’s and SU-30’s groups striking back all at the same time, the challenge prevented a complete successful mission, but left us with determination and interest to make another run at this mission again soon.

Happy Birthday 440th VFW

Hard to believe it's been a year already - looks like a fantastic way to celebrate it!

I had hoped to swing by before the flight to say hey, but got the time wrong and had some family obligations in any event. Still, I was pleased when I looked on TeamSpeak and saw so many occupied seats. Here's to another year!

Thanks for posting some pics Derk. I think it was a great turn out and hope we can do flights like this more often. I'm always amazed at how far reaching our hobby is; today we had pilots from Belgium, Israel, UK, US, Japan and Canada (I think I got them all).

Thanks to all of you that not only came out to fly today but who have made this past year a lot of fun. I'm really looking forward to the good times I know we will have in the coming years.
