An official introduction

Post by MailMan » Sat Mar 16, 2019 1:26 pm

Even though I have been posting for a couple weeks, let me do my official introduction. My name is Dave and I live just north of Tampa, Florida. I am 62 years old, and much younger than Badger. I retired from the Air Force in 97 after 21 years. I worked Hydraulics on several aircraft. My last few years I was a Maintenance Production Superintendent for AWACS at Tinker AFB, OK. I took a few months off and became a Mailman, thus the handle MailMan. I just retired for good after 20 years with the Post Office. I am married with two children that haven't been children for a while. My hobbies are golf, bass fishing and of course BMS. I built a full pit that I already posted some pictures of. I started on-line gaming way back with Mechwarrior II. I was in the Grand Council and a member of Clan Burrock. My handle was Cyborg. When hackers took over I moved to flight sims. I started with Air Warrior once AOL opened it up to non AOL members. When that got hacked, I moved to Aces High. My handle in both was Jammer. Got a little tired of WWII stuff and looked for something newer. I had purchased Falcon 4.0 on CD the year it came out but never installed it until after I left Aces High. I made an on line search for a Wing to join and found the FreeBirds VFW. I was with them for about two years before they ended operations. Moved to the 148th VFW with Bulldog until he mysteriously disappeared. Moved to the 20th VFW, where I remained. Due to health and family issues, I have been inactive for a couple years or so. I am ready to be an active pilot and enjoy meeting some new friends. Glad to be here.

Glad to have you aboard Mailman!

I used to follow your "Pit Progress" thread over at the BMS forums until it got quiet a couple of years back.

Looking forward to flying with you!

Yes it is. In fact I went to the 148th about the same time Dagger did. We spent some time there. Good to see you too :)

Great memories - I am still in contact with Dagger via Facebook from time to time. Sometimes I miss KidVicious, Sappy, Firebird, Gman, Tiger, Ripcut or Arpad.

Mailman... I know that callsign. Good to hear from one of the flightsim online early adopters. I remember a Jammer in the Flanker and Falcon communities. Also remember Mailman too. Before that were the EF2000, Janes Fighters and LB2, and so many WW2 sims. So many years ago.

I was with the Freebirds in their last 5 years with my pal Klink. Some other FBW names missed were: BadBoy and NapoleonBownApart. Then we joined up with Cham (who we just lost to illness) in his Talons squad. When BMS became the standard, Klink and then Cham followed me to the 1stVFW. Well we know the 440th story.

I’ve been AV8R since 14.4kbs modems and F3 using FHHD. But I’m slightly younger than Mailman and still working for a bit longer.

Cheers

Hey bud,
Of course I remember AV8R. Good to see you. I flew with BadBoy with the 148th for a while. If not mistaken he flew with us in the 20th for a bit. Badger? I recognize all the names you guys are mentioning. Some I flew with after the FreeBirds, some not. Well, here we are, hopefully having a future. So far so good. If only Zeus would just stop being such a hard @$$ :) Seriously, glad to see a Wing with structure and rules that are supported. I feel at home as I did in prior Wings. Can't wait to fly formation with you :)
