Post by Birddog » Mon Sep 19, 2022 7:58 pm

Since there has been a CTD for the host on the last two attempts to complete DD 19 I am starting a fresh Double Dragon Campaign in U3.

The original Double Dragon Campaign Issues have been posted on the BMS Forums and I am awaiting a solution.

Standby for Double Dragon Reload 1 Briefing.

DOUBLE DRAGON RELOAD 1

TIME07:00z(16:00 LT)
WEATHER:Clear

BRIEFING:
NATO and Allied forces are dreaming of a unified Korean Peninsula and they believe that will be attainable if we take enough ground back from them and decimate their forces where they would not even dream of coming back.
The 222nd has been tasked with the first strike to the PRC forces by destroying the airfield at Kwail airbase. Kwail Airbase is currently home to almost 50 PRC fighters and over 30 gunships. That being said, the airbase is very well protected by SAMs, AAA and Fighters. Package 3864 will take a preplanned route over friendly RED airspace and conduct a long range strike on Kwail using GBU-39 SDB's. An ESCORT and a SEAD flight have been tasked to pave the way for the OCA Strike.

AREA OF OPERATION:

I had to Google search T-16, womp-rat, and Beggars Canyon from the mission brief, but 'Good To Go Now'!

Looking forward to facing the 10 various air defense threats and 4 types of air threats briefed for DD Reload! :o

We lost some aircraft tonight, but overall it was a strong start for DD-R1. We racked up a few Su-30's and Su-27 kills, the SA-4 Pat Hand, and shut down the runways at Kwail in just under 1.5 hours of flight time. This clears the way for a lot more work in the SW peninsula area while holding off the Su-30's from the carrier. Looking forward to the next mission and hoping for more pilot support for this challenging but entertaining campaign.

Escort got one of the Su-30's that jumped our flank, and SEAD got the second...but just not quick enough before he got one the one escort flight.

OCA Strike became a single from loss from the Su-30's that jumped our flank, so he joined us for a three ship on return to Gunsan. Nice work on close formations after sweating it out in the Beggars Canyon!

DOUBLE DRAGON RELOAD 7

WEATHER: CLEAR
TIME: 18:07z (03:07 LT)

BRIEFING:
HQ is asking for the 120th out of Seosan to make the 4th attempt at sinking the carrier. Intel show that the defense systems of the CSG are not near what we expected. That being said it will still be a risky mission with 17 J-15's still operational in the group. Our strategy will first be to locate the carrier before anyone launches a weapon to ensure a successful strike. F-15K CAPS have been pushed closer to the position of the carrier for added support.

DD-10 Debrief from Hawkeye3

Hornet3 was a 3-ship F-16CM-50s out of Gunsan tasked with AI in the southern kill box. Primary targets in the box were SA threats including a AAA battalion and an HQ battalion that included SA-15s. Secondary targets were assault battalions in close proximity to friendly troops just outside the north end of the box.

Mission would require at least one refueling after initially clearing AAA battalion while Gamble1 fueled on ingress which would allow them an easy ingress to target.

What went well...
Everyone ramped quickly and followed Gamble1 on departure, quickly overtaking them as they split off for the tanker. Initial run into the target area resulted in quick acquisition of both the AAA and the SA-15s. Within two passes, all primary targets were destroyed and within 3 passes nearly all good targets (BTRs, etc.) were cleaned up as well. At this point everyone was down to 4 weapons remaining so we headed for the tanker.

AAR went very well despite some confusion as to which tanker was which (there were at least two in close proximity). We also had some BMS warping but everyone got on and off the boom very quickly (less than once around the track).

We returned to the target area, swept the box once more and then proceeded to engage hostile ground forces in contact with friendly troops. Everyone had good declares and all passes resulted in destruction of enemy vehicles with no collateral damage or friend fire incidents.

Fuel management was spot on and recovery back at Gunsan was by the book.

Really don't have any items to add for improvement, a couple minor SOP things were discussed but all in all a really great flight.

Ramping up at Gunsan, Home of the Gamblers.

DD-11 Debrief - Falcon1 (OCA)
The plan was simple - head north to take out an airbase. The details were set; follow Cobra5 and let them launch their HARMs just before we enter the SA-10 WEZ then lob our GBU-39s and get out of there. The enemy had other plans...

Our initial ingress was thwarted by hostile aircraft so the entire package executed a pre-planed reset and hold. As the air picture cleared, we headed in again. Once again we had to reset due to enemy air activity. On our third attempt, we were almost there when more enemy aircraft were detected however this time they were only J-7s so Cobra5 engaged.

A sole leaker aircraft had to be engaged by Falcon11. About this time Falcon1 hit the SA-10 WEZ and as we began to reset once again, Falcon14 called out that he had been hit. The SA-10 had launched the moment we were within range and #4 just didn't make it back out fast enough. At this point, Cobra5 pressed in and began to launch. Falcon1 immediate turned back in, maybe a hair too soon but all remaining GBUs were release and the flight began to execute evasive maneuvers and a high-speed egress. Unfortunately, another SA-10 had been launched and found Falcon11.
2022-11-18_221516.jpg
2022-11-18_221516.jpg (232.24 KiB) Viewed 1286 times
Now a 2-ship, Falcon1 expedited their egress and rejoined with Cobra for the flight home. 23 of the 24 GBUs found their mark and the airbase was taken out of service...at least for now. Excellent flight and a successful mission.

Leasons learned:

Executing a coordinated attack with a small SMA suppression window is difficult especially when you don't have air superiority.
SA-10s continue to be lethal and unpredictable (the only two missiles launched were at the two F-16s that got shot down - the HARMS found their targets)

SUNDAY'S PICKUP FLIGHT(Double Dragon 12)DEBRIEF

An impromptu pick up flight was scheduled this last Sunday without a real plan on what we would be doing.
After a short deliberation, all 4 pilots agreed that a OCA strike on Mirim(home to 12 Mig-23's) in the Double Dragon Campaign was in order.

Friendly DCA's were tasked in the are to support the strike and proved to be very helpful.

BEAST 5 4 x F-16CM blk 50
BEAST 5-1 and 5-2 were loaded with 2 x GBU 31's and tasked with hitting the Runways
BEAST 5-3 and 5-4 were loaded with 4 x GBU 38's and tasked with hitting the Tower and all the Fuel stores.

Ingress was uneventful but SOP's and formations were on point. Once we hit the IP the Mig's started to launch! Lead quickly called for a SPIN Alpha 2 minutes and all 4 aircraft turned south to let the DCA's do their work. Beast 5-1 called for a picture check and got the all clear, pushed the second element south for separation and 1 and 2 hooked back north for their target run.

As the airbase came in to the picture in the TGP, it was quickly noted that there were 4 Mig-23's on the ramp and getting ready for departure so getting the bombs off quickly was imperative. The first element then went GATE and prosecuted the target quickly. All 4 bombs came off and found their targets right as the MIG 23's were taxiing to the EOR. With the airbase down the second element separated by about 20 miles was free and clear to eliminate all of the peripherals at the air base. Once all 4 aircraft called DAKOTA, the 1st element turned back to the North for a quick Delouse of the second element and then MC called Miller time.

Spade 5, 4x F-16s had a big night over Kwail airbase destroying almost 70 enemy vehicles!

Zeus, Wheaties, Birddog, and Bull went to work taking out tanks and APCs parked around Kwail before Birddog and Bull took a trip to the tanker only to find it sour. Zeus and Wheaties continued to work on a massive armored column before all four F-16s had to head to Haeju for a hotpit refuel.

Spade 5-3 took the lead and with Spade 5-2 returned to find the armored column in the same spot. The two ship dropped all remaining ordinance before Dakota and RTB. The OPFOR armor really helped by getting themselves into some traffic jams as seen in the screenshots.
