Operation: Fallen Castle

Operation: Fallen Castle
The global community has decided that enough is enough and despite high tensions and a regional battle already underway, the last thing that is needed is another dictator with too much power. With the renewed construction underway at the Punggye-ri nuclear research and testing facilities, a secret strike has been approved. Our job is to carry out that strike.

Joint Mission Planning Session
Phase 1 of this mission will be to plan the strike. This will be an online session open to all Wing members and cadets - there will be no flying during this session, only mission planning. If you want to learn how to create a TE or plan a mission or just improve your ability to quickly soak up intel during mission briefings, you should attend this event.

Prior to this session, a list of mission goals and rules of engagement will be published along with the latest intel for the region. This will include information about aircraft availability (for both our side and theirs), potential weapons inventory limitations and weather forecasts for the mission window.

The goal of this session is to actually plan the strike. Those attending will have to determine how many and what type of aircraft will be used (keeping within any defined limitations), their loadouts (again, within the inventory limitations), the flight path(s) of the strike mission, locations for any support assets and any tactics or timing to be used by the mission flights to accomplish the mission goal(s).

Expect this session to last approximately 90 minutes (could be longer). The exact date/time will be posted in the ATO. Pilots are free to join or leave the session at any time.

Mission Execution
Phase two will be the actual flying of this mission. The jointly planned mission will take place approximately two weeks after the planning session. Several days before the actual flight, a formal mission briefing document will be published and will be required reading for any pilot that intends to fly the actual mission; if you sign up for the mission, make sure you have time to read this document (likely only a couple pages outlining each flight's responsibilities and overall mission guidelines).

Two strike packages have been tasked with hitting the Test Site; one using SOWs to strike known fixed targets, the other using low level delivery of Mk84s on targets without precise coordinates.

To minimize the threat response, an OCA / Escort flight will accompany the package and attempt to put the Orang Airbase out of service as well as open a small corridor in the air defenses by striking a pair of SA-2s just north of the airbase.

An EA-18G Growler will support the package by jamming the area suspected of harboring several SA-17 battalions.
Two tankers support the package.

Sign-up in the ATO.

Full mission briefing document found HERE.

NOTE: Be sure to read the briefing and be fully acquainted with the weapons and systems your flight will be using.

Really excited for it!
I've got used to employing the SPICES in ITO but will do a bit more practicing before the mission so as not to have any problems.

Also, really enjoyed the realistic weather (by what the briefing card shows at least) - the low ceiling at Homeplate and noticeable clouds at the target area makes the experience so much better than having perfect visibility and no clouds at all for the sake of making it easier.

Bump.

There are still seats available for this flight and more can be added. As it stands now, we have the minimum # of pilots needed for this mission - would love to see 4 more sign up.

If you do sign-up for a seat, be sure to read the mission briefing material (see above) BEFORE flight time. There will be minimal time spent briefing before we jump into the pit.
