Low Level Night Strike

Low Level Night Strike
Time:14:00Z (23:00LT)
Weather:Weather is currently fair with some scattered low level cloud (4,000') and expected to remain that way over night. Visibility is good however there will be little to no moonlight, making this a very dark flight.

Briefing:
Intel has confirmed that the North Koreans are again ramping up research and development of nuclear weapons and a key facility to that process is the Yongbyon Nuclear Plant. The 222nd has been tasked with the destruction of that facility.

The plant is located fairly deep in DPRK territory and has a handful of challenging defenses nearby not to mention several fighter squadrons that could scramble jets to intercept or at least retaliate. This mission has been planned to take advantage of the late hour and darkness to achieve at least some level of surprise to aid in its successful completion. The plan is to execute a well coordinated and well timed attack on surrounding air defenses followed closely by the attack on the facility itself. This is a quick in-and-out mission with no time for second passes and no room for mistakes. Abort calls need to be made if critical events are missed or delayed.

Area of Operation:

Spade1 is tasked with attacking the facility itself utilizing loft delivery of Mk-84s to minimize exposure and provide at least some standoff capabilities. HQ has determined that the SA-3 battalion located just to the ESE of the plant will be too difficult to eliminate in a timely manner and therefore has planned this low level loft delivery.

Just prior to the main attack, Cobra4 will execute low level strikes on SA-2 and SA-3 battalions located south of the plant while Cajun2 performs a low level OCA strike on Kaech'on Airbase located to the SE of Yongbyon. These strikes must be executed on time (+/- 60 seconds) in order to maintain the element of surprise and to ensure a relatively safe lofting environment for Spade2.

Cyborg1 is tasked with escorting the strike flights up to the push point and then holding that portion of airspace until the flights return (approx 20 min) then take them home.

Threats:
Air threats consist of MiG-29A squadrons at Kaech'on and Uiji, MiG-25s at Uiji, MiG-23s at Hwangju and MiG-21s at Haeju. Given the time of day, there is low likelihood of BARCAPs and Intel expects scramble response times to be at their slowest. Nonetheless, we need to be in and out quick and maintain our element of surprise as long as possible.

Surface to air threats are numerous. Most of the attack ingress from the push point will be within SA-5 envelops and therefore will be run NOE. The most significant threats are those SAM sites identified above as DEAD targets for Cobra4.

Could really use a couple more pilots for this flight - 12 pilots would be ideal, only have 9 at the moment. Come on...show your A-A skills and escort this strike package in to the push point, then hold control of that airspace until they are ready to egress! 20 minutes of air dominance - that's all we need!
