Mailman IQT Progress

Post by Zeus » Wed May 13, 2020 11:49 pm

Cadet/IP: Mailman/ Zeus
Check Ride #: IQT-1
Check Ride Date: 12 May 2020
Score: Pass

Debrief: After a long absence, its a please to welcome Mailman back to the flock. We went for his IQT-1 flight and found that under the cobwebs was the heart of a Viper pilot! :) Mailman did a great job with SOPs, formations, tac turns and our OHB. About the only thing he didn't get to do was refuel as the tanker was stuck in a perpetual turn (haven't seen that bug in a while) and Mailman's stick was having some trim sensitivity issues that made it unwise to proceed beyond the pre-contact position. All in all a nice flight and I'm looking forward to the rest. Welcome back Mailman.

Pleasure being back. I may have to clean the cobwebs off my bike in the garage and go for a spin. If I fall, it's Badgers fault! I actually almost got connected to the Tanker on the turn. I always had problems with that, so it may just be me. Seemed like the Tanker was taking it's time connecting after the PDI Lights went out after pre-contact. I get impatient, and figure if I bump his belly a couple of times, he will get the message :)

Cadet/IP: Mailman/ Zeus
Check Ride #: IQT-3
Check Ride Date: 14 June 2020
Score: Pass

Debrief: Chalk up another sweet success for Mailman as he passes IQT-3 last night! We went up looking for 4 good engagements and we got them with good clean kills on each and many lessons learned with some good take away items to continue sharpening those dogfighting skills. We took turns being the engaged pilot on the initial merges and worked on comms and weapon deployment. For a guy who says A-A and specifically ACM is not his favorite, Mailman did a great job maintaining SA and coordinating our 2:1 advantage to get quick kills; none of our fights lasted for more than a couple turns. Looking forward to doing some ground pounding now.

Ready to go hunting.

Cadet/IP: Mailman/ Zeus
Check Ride #: IQT-5
Check Ride Date: 20 Jul 2020
Score: Pass

Debrief: To celebrate Moon Day, Mailman and I did our only IQT night flight, IQT-5, and worked on some hunter-killer tactics and SAM avoidance. Despite some BMS frustrations, Mailman managed to successfully deploy his HARMs and demonstrate his knowledge of Mav and ability to tank in the dark. Unfortunately, during our mark point exercise he got a little low and got tagged by some angry AAA operators but he had demonstrated enough to accomplish our goals for the flight. And since we both encountered a CTD right about then, we decided that was enough for one night. :)

Cadet/IP: Mailman/ Zeus
Check Ride #: IQT-6
Check Ride Date: 6 Aug 2020
Score: Pass

Debrief: Congrats to Mailman for completing IQT the other night. We went up for our final flight with Mailman demonstrating solid knowledge of the jet and our SOPs. While there are things he says he still wants to improve, the time has come to unleash Mailman on the Wing. Looking forward to having another active member in our flights.

Thank you. I prepared this long speech but Zeus told me if I read it, he would fail me. So I will save you all some grief :) Yes, the throttle is much better. Now I need a Radio Switch for it. Still having issues with a sticky VHF. If anyone has a Cougar Throttle Radio Switch, I could use it :)
