Poison IQT Progress

Post by Derk » Mon Apr 15, 2019 2:59 am

Cadet/IP: Poison / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-1
Check Ride Date: 14 April 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Please help me welcome “Poison” to IQT. In just days of receiving his application, he was prepped and ready for his first flight. Poison comes with some good BMS experience, and along with some real world experience he is able to have a strong handle on the basics in our IQT-1. We ran through all of the formations, air refuel, and tac turns pretty quick and I was left with what to do with our time left over. So I asked Poison to take lead and put me through some tac-turns and then did a practice BRAA call to the AWAC’s. Yup – he’s ready for more!

Nice job Poison!

Cadet/IP: Poison / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-2
Check Ride Date: 15 April 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: Tonight Poison completed the objectives for IQT-2 – yes, one day after doing IQT-1. It was good we split it into two flights to give time to get a feel for the flying style and comms before getting into combat flights. The time paid off well as Poison did a great job in all of the engagements, getting 5 hits with 5 missiles. One of those was to finish off a MiG-29 that only got nipped by one of my shots. Our time on the tanker was minimal with a quick connection 'in the turn', and making all of the comm call-outs. His experience in the missile evasion tactic showed with a good maneuver that left him far from the missile. After a quick little merge on each other (just for fun) that put Poison on my tail in a few turns, we finished the flight with a quick straight in approach to Kunsan.

Nice flight all around and real good job on the engagements!

"Step by Step" that's Derk's approach in all matters. Something he learned during his former career. :D

Looking very good. Nice job by student and IP. Keep up the professional teamwork.

Cadet/IP: Poison / Derk
Check Ride #: IQT-3
Check Ride Date: 23 April 2019
Score: Pass

Debrief: A couple nights ago Poison completed the objectives for IQT-3. The delay in my post doesn't do justice to the fine job he had in all three engagements. When the IP doesn’t need to fire a shot in IQT-3 it’s a sign of a really good one, and this was the case as each of the MiG were gone before they had a chance to make the low and slow evasion. Poison did a great job calling "In" with a good shot, so the merges were well coordinated. So well that I offered the lead spot for the last engagement and flew on his wing for it, and then all the way to the tanker. The AIM-9P's did their usual bad job, but Poison is skilled with the gun and did a great job leading us around a bit.

Looking forward to more flying with you in the Air to Ground part of IQT.

Derk
