WWW Chit Chat

I know, we started here something new, and normaly we should "cut of old braids",
but I am missing that thread!

So I am starting with! I hope you don't mind!

Here is one of the most realistic movie scence I have ever seen about fighter aircraft, I think it was a
SA-11! ;-)

Good idea! Let's call it "WWW Chit Chat".

In the movie "Behind Enemy Lines" you can see a SA-13:

They reference to the story of Scott O'Grady , a F-16 pilot who was shot down by a Serbian SA-6. ;)

With only a little over an hour of run time, this is worth it if you have the time.

Yeah, sorry, I added YouTube support a few days ago, as it doesn't come in the forum automatically, and I was only able to get it working with one link format. I'll try to add more at some point - need to finish ATO first.

Missed that one. I was actually inside the AWACS that you can see in the video during the ILA in Berlin.

Thought this was a pretty good read.

As a vPilot I've made more bad decisions than I care to admit. Most of them are due to the fact that you will always "walk away" from the desktop no matter what happens in the sim. I have recently been making a conscious effort to treat the sim as though it could kill me, to eliminate that gung-ho frame of mind that some of us as sim pilots tend to slide into from time-to-time. These types of articles help me slow things down in the pit and make rational decisions.

Hope you get something out of it!

That was a good read Schnidrman. I've flown sims where once you learn all of the button pressing combinations, there's not much challenge left. BMS is one that can go beyond that with the concept of evaluating decision making processes and setting personal rules for survival. To me, this is the challenge of the sim more than just pressing a fire button.

I was looking for a DCS F/A-18 review of the release version from the last 24 hours and had those here as first in the list.

Real Hornet Driver

Waiting for a friend who's an flightsim expert and buys each and every simulation that comes out for the PC. As soon as he tells me it's worth to buy - the last one was Rise of Flight - I will give it a try. Otherwise I will spend the time to work on BMS and its great potential and sustainable architecture. ;)

In light of the release of the Hornet at DCS, I thought this was an interesting (maybe a bit biased) look at a comparison from a series of articles published a few years ago. Some of the differences explained cannot be experienced in the sim, but the performance comparisons make me side with the Viper aside from the fact that I just love the way she looks!

Image

https://fightersweep.com/1494/hornet-vs-viper-part-one/
https://fightersweep.com/1539/hornet-vs-viper-part-two/
https://fightersweep.com/1904/hornet-vs ... art-three/
https://fightersweep.com/2378/hornet-vs ... part-four/

I'm just not as interested in the Hornet and am really glad that I was able to find a group of guys that still wanted to fly the Viper!

Edit: One interesting note for me was how the author talked about the position of the TGP on the Viper and how it favored a right hand orbit of the target which felt unnatural to pilots. I had just had that discussion with Derk Friday night after the FNPU when we were discussing my upcoming IQT6 check ride and he was explaining how this was the better contract for buddy lasing. Not to say that I ever doubted the infinite wisdom of my IP (ego massage in progress) , but it's always cool to stumble onto some real world validation (see notes on author). :D

I have read that a left turn is more natural for planes with center sticks and pilots holding it with the right hand. I assume it was the ergonomics of the right hand pushing to the left being easier than pulling right. The right turn preference for buddy lazing has to do only with location of the TGP and picture angle on the F16. Someone else may be able to explain the details better than me.
