Alternative Launcher

Post by STAC » Mon Feb 01, 2021 10:14 pm

Hey all,

Was just wondering if anyone was running Alt Launcher to program BMS.
If so, is there a way to run 4.34 & 4.35?
Alt Launcher seems to only recognize one install.

TIA

I have no idea that this will work for you, but with Weapons Delivery Planner, I just run two different installs of WDP and one of them is tied to 4.34 and the other to 4.35. This allows me to select one or the other depending on which version I choose to fly without having to change the campaign folder it is tied to. Wouldn't take long to try it out and see. I haven't used alternative launcher because I never seem to have any of the issues it was created to fix.

Best of luck on figuring out your sloution.

Thanks Schnidrman!
Unfortunately I do not see that option with the Alt Launcher.
Looks like I will need to dig into this a little more.

Thanks for the response,

Unfortunately I had the same issue with not being able to run the two concurrently with alternative launcher, interested to see if someone has a solution.

Just got it up and running guys!

4.34U4 is running on AL 1.53
4.35 is running on AL 1.60

This solved it all.
Hope the above works for you guys as well!

I was just about to answer your initial post then I saw that you solved it. I did it the same way, which I think is the only way. Glad to hear you got it sorted out!

Thanks Wheelchock!
And yeah I think the AL launcher versions are specific to BMS versions.

If it's the older version < 1.6.x AL replaced the hub.exe file and there should be a backup in the same directory. hub.exe is located under {FALCON_BMS_INSTALL_DIR}/bin/x86. If its the newer 2.0 (BETA) version then AL has it's own uninstaller and is completely separate from Falcon BMS install directory.

1. Does a full uninstall of Falcon BMS also uninstall the 'old' version of Alt. Launcher, or would something still dangle around in a file outside of that or in the registry?

2. If the newer version has an uninstall option, how is that found? (need a 'talk-on') :)

The old version installed a replacement for the hub.exe file. IT wasn't really a true installer as there was no uninstall other than removing the hub.exe file. So, removing Falcon BMS directory would have removed the old version of Alternate Launcher. The new version uses a true installer and installs into a separate directory outside of Falcon BMS directory (by default). The 2.0 version uninstaller can be found in Add / Remove programs.
Again just to be clear, AL 2.0 is the newer version, anything older than that is the old version.
