MFDE - Portable / Stand-alone

Post by Zeus » Sun Jan 23, 2022 3:19 am

Thanks to the BMS community, I found a freshly compiled (?) version of MFDE (although it has the same version # as the last version from GitHub) that seems to work as a stand-alone / portable version requiring no other dependencies to be in place. This saved my butt as I was doing a clean install o my new rig. Oakdesign posted a copy on his Google drive for anyone that's interested.

Is this in reference to the Win11 issue with MFDe?

To be clear, its not a Win11 issue. MFDE has long had an issue of requiring some install dependencies and guys were finding that on clean installs of Win7, Win10 and Win11, MFDE would no longer work (so some other app must have previously added the critical component prior to installing MFDE on the PC). So Oakdesign compiled a clean version that has all the dependencies bundled into it. Unfortunately, he kept the version info the same so you can't tell the difference between the "official" version from Git and his version - both report out 0.6.3.0.

So if you ever wanted to try out gauge extraction, this is the version you want. Its easy to use - just select the gauges you want to have, click Apply, slide the gauged to where you want them and press OK.

It would be nice to see if he would grant us permission to distribute that as needed inside the wing.

Any reason to use this vice RTT if I only care about MFD extractions?

Not really. If you already have RTT set up then no but it does offer drag/drop capabilities for placement of extractions vs trying to hand code the correct x/y values.

Question:
I currently run MFDE for my gauges and rtt for my mfd’s. I’ve had issues with using MFDE for the actual MFD’s since 4.35. Does this stand alone version of MFDE correct that issue?

I tried it out to see how it differed from RTT and it works painlessly for my MFDs.

not sure what the issue was but this one definitely works.

I still can't get it to work so far! As I "extract and move an instrument to where I want it, all is well. As soon as I try to extract/move another thing everything else disappears!
I'll keep messing with it, but as much as I loved it before 4.34 (I think that is when it stopped working) I'm just about hating it as much now! LOL

I've experienced this too - but its still running. I've found that if I just give it a minute, the gauged typically reappear.

Oh, and make sure you have BMS running, at least on the home screen / main 2d menu.(not just the launcher)

Installed on my 'test' pc and initially did not display the MFD's, though other things worked (out of the box).

Had to go into my file:
C:\Falcon BMS 4.35\User\Config\falcon bms.cfg

and set this config value to '1':
set g_bExportRTTTextures 1

[just a point out in case someone is new to MFD Extractions]

It'll set that for you, but you have to configure it here:
